Academic tutoring with the Mentiway platform support
On October 1, 2025, with the start of the new academic year, another iteration of the mentoring and tutoring program implemented with the Mentiway tutoring application was launched at the Technical University of Lodz. This is the second edition of the collaboration, which develops an academic approach to mentoring and shows that individual development support is as important as the quality of didactics. The program is coordinated at the Technical University of Lodz by the Center for Learning, which is responsible for implementing tutoring, in three guises: academic, personal and peer mentoring, and for their integration with the university’s development activities. Recruitment for the program just kicked off on October 1, with the official launch of the cooperation a month later on November 1, 2025.
In this edition 53 couples are participating in the program, another 10 are in the process of being formed, which shows that the idea of personalized accompaniment of students in their development is gaining popularity at the PLP. The current edition of the program will last one semester – until February 28, 2026. Why did Lodz University of Technology bet on mentoring and tutoring?.
Lodz University of Technology has for years invested in student development not only through classes and study circles, but also through initiatives that support individual talents and soft skills. Mentoring and tutoring are a natural complement to this approach. They give students the opportunity to work with a supportive person – a tutor or mentor – who helps them sort out their goals, develop in academic and personal areas, and consciously build a career path.
While introducing the tutoring program, we wanted to take care of each student’s individual development path. This is part of Lodz University of Technology’s strategy, in which we focus on modern, personalized forms of education – adds Marzena Stawicka.
With Mentiway tutoring platform, the university can run the process on a larger scale, in a structured, transparent and organizationally efficient manner. The application automates tasks that used to take many hours of work: recruiting, pairing, managing meeting schedules and reporting progress. At the same time, it is the IL Learning Center that is responsible for the overall implementation of the program, preparing tutors and overseeing the tutoring process. How is the tutoring program at Lodz University of Technology?
The mentoring and tutoring program at PŁ is an initiative that has a real impact on students’ lives. Each pair – tutor and student – works together throughout the semester, meets regularly and focuses on the mentee’s individual needs. For some students, it’s support for effective study and organization of time, for others it’s discussions about career direction, project work or coping strategies. The program in place at PŁ has been developed in cooperation between the Learning Center team and tutoring practitioners, which allows the methods of work to be better tailored to the needs of students from different majors.
Unlike classical classes, tutoring is more personal. It is based on relationships, dialogue and building a space where the student can talk frankly about difficulties, ambitions or doubts. Practitioner mentors, on the other hand, bring an additional perspective – professional experience, industry knowledge and a project-based approach.
With Mentiway tutoring platform, all participants have access to tools that make the process easier: meeting scheduling, checklists, development materials, and a feature for keeping notes and goals.
First findings and growing interest in tutoring at the university.
Interest in the program is growing every year.
– Students very much appreciate the fact that someone takes individual time and helps them through the steps that are sometimes difficult at the beginning of their studies. This builds a real bond between the student and the university,” continues the university’s tutoring coordinator.
In the previous edition, tutoring at the Technical University of Lodz showed the importance of a personalized approach – both for first-year students who are just finding their way in the university environment, and for more advanced students who want to sort out their competencies and prepare to enter the job market.
In this edition, the participation of as many as 53 pairs shows that mentoring and tutoring cease to be an add-on, and become an integral part of the strategy for student development at PŁ. By combining tutoring methodology and Mentiway tutoring technology, the university can simultaneously scale the project and maintain its individual character.
The importance of collaboration for universities and students.
Mentiway’s partnership with the Technical University of Lodz is an example of how universities can enhance the study experience in a real way. The program supports:
- better adaptation of students to the academic environment,
- development of soft skills, such as communication, time management and teamwork,
- more informed educational and professional decisions,
- motivation and perseverance in achieving goals,
- Strengthening contacts between students and university staff and external mentors.
For the university, it is also an opportunity to build a modern image – an institution that cares about the development of students in a holistic way and based on current educational trends. The Learning Center of the Technical University of Lodz plays a key role in this process, coordinating the activities of tutors, providing training and taking care of the qualitative development of the entire program
– The most important thing is that in tutoring, the student is always at the center. Our goal is to create a space where everyone can develop their strengths, learn consciously and build self-confidence – regardless of their stage of study. We are pleased that the Technical University of Lodz is developing a program that realistically supports young people and gives them the feeling that they are not alone in their journey. We cordially invite all students to take advantage of this opportunity and join the program – finalizes Marzena Stawicka.
