Mentoring Program Overview
The mentoring program at the Business School at Nord University is a strategic initiative aimed at connecting students with leaders from Norwegian business. The main goal is to establish a personal dialogue where mentor and student meet to discuss career and personal development.
Program Objectives
The program provides insight into:
- Business management
- The relationship between theory and practice
- Reducing expectation gaps between students and the business community regarding:
- Competence
- Roles
- Demands
- Career opportunities
Additionally, the program contributes to strengthening students' abilities in:
- Goal setting
- Self-awareness
- Presentation techniques
- Communication
- Relationship building
- Argumentation skills
- Seeing issues from different perspectives
Relationship Building
The program also facilitates relationship building between Business School students and national businesses, as well as closer cooperation between the university and the business community.
Program Structure
The program runs from the autumn semester to the spring semester and includes three mandatory joint sessions:
- Kickoff
- Midpoint
- Concluding seminar
Attendance is mandatory for students at these sessions. Upon completing the program, all participants receive a Certificate of Participation.
Application Process
The selection of students is based on their motivation and expectations for the program. The application should be formatted as a job application and must include:
- Information on why one is applying
- What one hopes to gain from the mentor relationship
- A brief outline of study and/or career plans for the next two years
- How much time one is willing to commit to the relationship
A CV must be attached. After the program, it is up to the student and mentor whether the relationship should end or continue.
