Mentoring Program Overview

The Mentoring Program of the Centre for Modern Art and Theory (CMAT MUNI) is an initiative aimed at supporting postgraduate students and early-career researchers in the field of modern art and theory. The program's goal is to foster dialogue and intellectual exchange through mentorship between members of the Centre, and by extension, members of the Department of Art History. The program is designed to provide individualized support and guidance to those who wish to discuss their research activities and gain insight into the academic environment.

Key Aspects and Benefits of the Program

  • Individual Support: The program allows mentees to choose a more experienced scientist (mentor) who will introduce them to their scientific career path, provide workplace references, and discuss new developments in the field. Mentors advise on crucial steps for starting a scientific career and on addressing questions faced by the mentee.
  • Content Flexibility: The content of the program is determined by mutual agreement between the mentor and mentee, allowing it to focus on what interests the mentee most. Mentoring does not replace the relationship between a supervisor and a student but complements it with a broader perspective and informal guidance.
  • Broadening Horizons and Networking: It is recommended that the mentor comes from a different institution, which allows the mentee to gain insight into a different environment, broaden their horizons, and establish new contacts. Participating institutions gain free publicity and establish contacts with other workplaces.

Target Group

The program is primarily intended for doctoral students and postdocs who are employees of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, but it is also open to a wider group of early-career scientists.

Participation

For those interested in participating in the program, either as a mentor or mentee, a non-binding questionnaire is available. The program is active and offers a valuable opportunity for personal and professional development in the academic sphere.
