Mentoring Program at the University of South-Eastern Norway

The University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) offers a mentoring program for students who seek guidance in the transition from student life to working life. A mentor is intended to support and provide good advice on the path into professional life.

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to:

  • 2nd and 3rd-year bachelor students
  • Students in selected programs at campuses in:
    • Drammen
    • Kongsberg
    • Ringerike
    • Vestfold

To participate, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Normal study progression
  • An average grade of C or better

Program Participation

Participation is contingent on:

  • Finding a suitable mentor
  • Completing a questionnaire used for matching

The program includes:

  • Physical attendance at three program gatherings
  • One digital gathering

Interactive Participation

Interactive participation and exchange of experiences through:

  • Mandatory plenary sessions with students and mentors
  • Facilitated by academic process leaders

These elements are central to the program.

Collaboration and Mentors

The mentoring programs are offered in collaboration with:

  • Various business associations
  • International professional networks like Rotary
  • Employee organizations such as Econa and Negotia (YS)
  • Engineering organizations like Tekna and NITO
  • USN's own network

This broad collaboration ensures a diverse range of mentors with varied backgrounds, including:

  • Subject specialists
  • Leaders of different ages

Mentors can be working professionals or retired individuals who are still actively involved in professional organizations.

Expectations and Costs

Both students and mentors are expected to:

  • Contribute their own time
  • Cover their own travel expenses for gatherings and individual meetings

There are no other financial outlays for participants, and relevant materials are distributed continuously.

Language Requirement

The working language of the program is Norwegian, and all participants must be proficient in written and spoken Norwegian.
