Mentoring Scheme via NAV at the University of Oslo
The Mentoring Scheme via NAV at the University of Oslo (UiO) is an offer for students who receive educational support through NAV. The program is aimed at students aged 22 or older who have an adapted need for assistance and guidance in their daily study life.
A mentor in this scheme can offer:
- Practical help
- Assistance in structuring the student's daily study life
It is important to emphasize that the mentoring collaboration should not exceed the study's learning objectives or the requirement for independent work. The need for a mentor is assessed individually each semester, ensuring that the support is relevant and adapted to the student's current situation.
Application Process
The application process involves several steps:
- The student must contact their local NAV office to clarify their rights to the mentoring scheme.
- Then, the faculty should be contacted with a description of the need for a mentor, the number of hours required, and what tasks the mentor should have.
- UiO will then discuss the matter with the student's NAV advisor.
- UiO prepares a job advertisement, and it is an advantage if the student has suggestions for suitable candidates, preferably fellow students.
- UiO then invites the student and suitable candidates for an interview to find a suitable mentor.
- Finally, a digital agreement is created on NAV.no that must be signed by NAV, the student, and the mentor before the collaboration can begin.
Collaboration for Inclusion
The program is an example of how public bodies and educational institutions collaborate to ensure inclusion and facilitate students with specific needs, helping more individuals complete higher education.
