Mentorship Program at "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași

The "Mentorat" (Mentorship) program at "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași (UAIC) is designed to support students in their adaptation to academic life. The primary goal is to help first-year students, known as "boboci" (freshmen), integrate into the university community and familiarize themselves with all aspects of student life, facilitating a smooth transition to the new academic and social environment.

Objectives and Areas of Support

The program focuses on providing holistic support that extends beyond purely academic aspects. This includes:

  • Assistance with integration into the university community.
  • Personal and academic development.
  • Provision of information about courses, seminars, and laboratories.
  • Guidance on interacting with colleagues and professors.
  • Information regarding exams, ECTS credits, and scholarships.
  • Insights into dormitory life.
  • Information about student associations and relevant projects.
  • Opportunities for internships and employment.
  • Recommendations for cultural and entertainment activities in Iași.

Methodology and Duration

The program operates through informal meetings with experienced students who act as mentors. These mentors are students in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of undergraduate studies, as well as master's and doctoral students. They share their experiences and offer advice, guidance, and support throughout the freshmen's first year of studies, ensuring continuous support during this crucial adaptation period.

Students interested in becoming mentors are invited to register via an online form to be included in the program's database and receive necessary information.

Impact

Through this program, UAIC aims to build a strong student community where members understand, respect, and support each other. The support provided by older students helps newcomers overcome initial challenges, develop confidence, and make the most of the opportunities offered by university life. This peer mentoring model contributes not only to students' academic success but also to their personal development and the creation of a sense of belonging.
