Mentoring Report – survey among Mentors and Mentees

On the Mentiway platform, more than 50 different mentoring programmes have already been delivered to around 2,500 Mentors and Mentees since its founding in 2022. In delivering these programmes as Mentiway, we keep an eye on the progress of the processes, the behaviour of the participants, and gather feedback and lessons learned from Mentors and Mentees.

We build our experience, which we use on an ongoing basis to support further programmes. But in line with our mission, we want to share this experience more widely, thereby popularising the idea of mentoring.

One of the results of such activities are our reports and studies, including our latest report: Mentoring through the eyes of people participating in mentoring programmes.

Survey of participants in mentoring programmes

Our latest survey is based on surveys completed by participants in mentoring programmes. Since the implementation of the surveys over the previous 6 months, we have collected more than 300 votes from Mentors, Mentees and Mentees from around 20 different programmes. We analysed the results of these surveys and compiled them into a report.

In addition, we asked more than a dozen organisers of mentoring programmes to share their own insights. These range from in-house programmes to broader programmes organised for students or as part of the activities of foundations and professional organisations. This unique perspective is an excellent addition to the report.

Key findings of the report

You can download the full report for free here – open the report . Below you will find what we consider to be some of the most important findings of the study:

  • 97% of those participating in mentoring programmes would like to implement mentoring more widely in their organisations.
  • The NPS for mentoring as a method of personal development is as high as 78 points.
  • Almost all participants in mentoring processes (95%) are satisfied with the pairing, regardless of whether they chose the pairing themselves or it was imposed by the organisers.
  • The three most frequently mentioned benefits of participating in a mentoring programme are regardless of the role (mentor/ mentee):
    • Broadening/learning a different perspective.
    • Increased self-awareness and insight.
    • Establishing new relationships and friendships.
  • Among mentees, differences in benefits can be seen depending on the category of mentoring programme. Mentees perceive different benefits in corporate programmes, others in university and ‘foundation’ programmes.
  • The most commonly identified barriers to implementing mentoring processes are:
    • Lack of time.
    • Difficulty in clarifying mentee goals.
    • Mentor-mentee mismatch.
