Get Your Career StaRTed Mentoring Program
The "Get Your Career StaRTed" Mentoring Program at Reutlingen University is specifically tailored to the needs of international students. It aims to connect mentees with experienced mentors who can provide valuable insights into the German job market and professional life. This includes not only professional questions but also intercultural aspects and the clarification of career goals.
The program is designed to facilitate the transition of international students from academia to the working world and support their integration into German society.
Program Structure
The program structure includes at least three meetings per semester:
- An introductory meeting (online or in person) to clarify expectations.
- A visit to the mentor's workplace (if possible) to gain practical insights.
- A final conversation (online or in person) to discuss next steps and reflect on the mentoring process.
At the end of each semester, all mentoring pairs are invited to a get-together at Reutlingen University or one of the participating companies to foster exchange and networking.
Topics Covered in Mentoring
The topics that can be covered in mentoring are diverse, with a focus on:
- Application questions
- Job entry
- Daily professional life in Germany
- Defining career goals
Matching Process
The matching of tandems is based on registration forms where both mentees and mentors indicate their interests and expectations to ensure the most suitable pairing possible. The program places great emphasis on individualized and needs-based support to enable international students to have a successful start to their professional future in Germany.
It is a proactive approach to mitigate the challenges international graduates face when entering the German labor market.
