Sindbad Mentoring Program

Sindbad is a mentoring program for young people, whose vision is a society where young individuals connect and seize opportunities regardless of their social background.

Program Goals

The primary goal of the program is to support young people in successfully transitioning into:

  • Further education
  • Apprenticeships

Mentorship Structure

Each participating student (mentee) is matched with a personal mentor aged 20 to 35 for a duration of 8 to 12 months. Together, they work towards a successful entry into further education or an apprenticeship.

Benefits for Mentors

Mentors gain insight into a new life world and participate in an exciting module offering. The program is free for young people.

Volunteer Opportunities

For young adults (20-35 years old) who wish to engage socially and contribute to equal opportunities in Austria, it offers an opportunity to volunteer as a mentor.

Success Metrics

Sindbad achieves remarkable success:

  • 83% of mentoring teams complete the program.
  • 83% of those successfully enter an apprenticeship or further education.
  • 94% of mentees from the last cohort would recommend Sindbad.

Program Reach and Impact

By December 2024, 5,782 young people had been reached, with the goal of reaching 10,000 by 2026. The program is a strong example of social mentoring that:

  • Counteracts educational inequalities
  • Strengthens social cohesion

It demonstrates how targeted guidance and relationship building can empower young people to actively shape their future and seize opportunities that might otherwise be denied to them. This significantly contributes to talent development and the creation of a more just society.
