TU Wien Mentoring Program

The TU Wien mentoring program is designed to facilitate students' entry into their studies or support them in difficulties or when re-entering. It is a peer program where higher-semester students with relevant study experience (mentors) support younger students (mentees).

This program allows mentees to benefit from the knowledge of experienced TU students and have a first point of contact. Both mentees and mentors benefit from this program:

  • Mentees: Receive support in starting their studies and in organizing and designing their study plans. They have a concrete contact person from the start who already has study experience and is usually at least in the 3rd semester of the Bachelor's program.
  • Mentors: Look after a group of approximately 15 mentees and accompany them through the first semester at TU Wien with regular meetings. Through this social engagement, mentors can improve their counseling and leadership skills, which are also in high demand in the job market.

For their commitment, mentors receive:

  • A certificate for 3 ECTS (Transferable Skills Catalogue / Social Competence)
  • A confirmation of participation from the Vice Rector for Teaching

Target Audience

The program is aimed at:

  • First-semester students of all fields of study
  • Advanced-semester students who are having difficulties or are re-entering their studies

Mentees can participate in the mentoring program for a maximum of 1 academic year, with approximately 7 meetings scheduled per semester.

Program Schedule

The procedure for the winter semester 2025/26 includes:

  • A kick-off event and group assignment on September 25, 2025
  • Approximately 7 group meetings between October and January
  • A cross-group event
  • An end-of-semester event

TU Wien also plans to recruit Ukrainian-speaking mentors for Ukrainian first-year students. Application as a mentee requires a letter of motivation.
