Mentoring Program at MedUni Wien
The Mentoring Program at MedUni Wien aims to foster intensive exchange, promote students, and strengthen their connection to the university. It is a process where an experienced individual supports the professional and personal development of another, usually younger, person. The program adapts to the individual needs of the students (mentees) and provides experienced experts (mentors) for personal support for a certain period.
The mentor assists the mentee by sharing their knowledge and experience. There are two types of mentoring:
- Junior Mentoring:
- Targets all students of human and dental medicine from the first semester onwards.
- Mentors are senior students.
- The focus is on regular meetings, lively exchange of ideas and opinions, individual development, and networking among students from different academic years.
- Senior Mentoring:
- Targets students from the second year of study onwards.
- Mentors are experienced doctors and scientists from MedUni Wien and its teaching hospitals.
- Goals are to promote the personal and professional development of students and their career opportunities.
Benefits for mentees include:
- Personal and professional development
- Access to the mentor's knowledge and experience
- Networking opportunities
- Enhanced career opportunities
The exact duration of the mentoring relationship is not explicitly specified but is described as a "certain period." The program is an excellent example of integrating peer and expert mentoring to comprehensively support students and prepare them for the demands of the medical profession. The program's structure, covering both early study entry and advanced phases, demonstrates a deep understanding of the diverse needs of students throughout their education.
