Amigo Mentoring Program
The Amigo Mentoring Program is an initiative focused on supporting and developing high school students in the Czech Republic. The program, part of the ProStředoškoláky.cz platform, aims to connect the most active and successful former high school students (referred to as "amigos" or "veterans") with current students who are seeking inspiration, advice, and assistance with their further development.
Whether it's a specific project, looking for tips on extracurricular activities, or discussing life after high school, the Amigo program offers individualized support and guidance.
How the Amigo Program Works and What It Offers
- Connection with "Veterans": Students choose their mentor from among successful alumni who have experience leading competitions, organizing conferences, studying abroad, or engaging in activities in various fields (e.g., IT, humanities, arts, volunteering, research).
- Individual Meetings: Mentees and mentors meet several times in person or online, depending on their possibilities. The goal is to advance the mentee's activities, ignite the spirit of an active high school student within them, or simply provide a space for discussing future plans.
- Informal Instructions and Support: Both parties receive a brief list of informal instructions on how and what to discuss to ensure the collaboration is as beneficial and pleasant as possible. Program organizers regularly contact participants to verify smooth progress and the usefulness of meetings, and if necessary, assist in finding a replacement mentor.
- Diversity of Topics: Mentors are prepared to discuss a wide range of topics, from choosing a university, through obtaining certificates, balancing interests from different fields, to specific skills like programming or writing books. The program also supports the development of self-confidence and the ability "not to be afraid" of new challenges.
The program is designed for both parties to enjoy and mutually enrich each other. Applications for the program usually open in the autumn, with the current round already underway and applications closed. The next round is expected in the autumn of next year.
Amigo is a valuable tool for high school students who want to gain a head start in personal and professional development and prepare for life after high school.
