Mentoring Program for Ph.D. Students
The Mentoring Program for Ph.D. students at the University of Hradec Králové is a key initiative aimed at supporting doctoral students in their studies, at the start of their professional path, and in a successful transition from doctoral studies to practice, whether in academia or beyond. The program is suitable for Ph.D. students in all years of study and complements, rather than replaces, cooperation with their supervisors.
Main Goals and Characteristics of the Program
- Career Development Support: Mentoring provides mentees with role models, psychological support, and practical help. It contributes to the development of competencies, knowledge, attitudes, self-confidence, professional identity, and motivation for further work and growth.
- Relationship Flexibility: The mentoring relationship is very flexible in terms of time, scope, and meeting format, depending on the individual agreement between the mentor and mentee. Mentees can cooperate with more than one mentor and choose them from the UHK mentor database or approach prospective mentors of their own choice. The program coordinator assists with this selection.
- Broadening Horizons: A mentor can be from a different institution or even a different field, which can broaden the mentee's horizons and imagination about career opportunities.

- Closing Event: At the end of the year, a closing event is held for all mentees and mentors, serving to gather feedback for the program coordinator and for further networking.
