LMU Mentoring & Junior Staff Development Program

The LMU Mentoring & Junior Staff Development program at the LMU Munich School of Management is designed to support outstanding young scientists on their path to an academic career, particularly with the goal of becoming a professor. The primary goal is to provide these early career researchers with the best possible support and encouragement.

Mentee Opportunities

As a mentee, participants can select experienced professors from LMU or other universities to serve as their mentors. In addition to the individual support from their chosen mentor, the program offers:

  • Continuing education courses: Designed to enhance skills relevant to an academic career.
  • Networking opportunities: Fostering connections with other academics and professionals.
  • Career planning support: Assisting with navigating the path to professorship.
  • Financial funding: Support for various academic activities.

Financial Support

Financial support is provided for expenses that directly benefit the academic career, such as:

  • Support by auxiliary staff
  • Travel expenses
  • Other financial support (e.g., for coaching, workshops, data acquisition)

Application Process

Applications are submitted via email with a cover letter, academic CV, and a mentor suggestion. Mentees are selected based on application quality and LMU's diversity principles.

Program Timeline

The support phase starts on February 5, 2025, and ends on December 31, 2025.

Mentoring Relationship

The program emphasizes the importance of a trusting relationship between mentor and mentee and the proactive shaping of the mentoring process by the mentees.
