Mentoring Program at Universität Hamburg
The Mentoring Program at Universität Hamburg, offered by the Career & Qualification Center, focuses on the transfer of knowledge, industry know-how, and the development of new perspectives through experienced professionals.
Program Goals
The primary goal is to enhance career entry opportunities for female students and graduates from diverse backgrounds by providing individualized support from experienced mentors. The program targets:
- Female students in the final phase of their studies (from the 5th Bachelor's or 3rd Master's semester)
- Graduates who completed their studies no more than one year ago and are currently transitioning into professional life
It is specifically designed for individuals with a registered gender entry "w" (cis and trans) and aligns with the diversity principles of the University of Hamburg. Applications from students and graduates of diverse disciplines, backgrounds, and origins are especially welcomed to reduce social inequality in access to career opportunities.
Mentoring Focus
Mentoring focuses on the individual professional and personal development of the mentee. It is an intergenerational, supportive learning relationship based on:
- Mutual voluntariness
- The mentor's voluntary commitment
- A high degree of confidentiality
The program is a proven and effective tool for career development, particularly during the transition from university to the workforce. It builds on research findings and experiences from earlier programs, further developing them within the context of a "diversity climate."
Benefits for Mentees and Mentors
Although no fixed duration is stated, the focus on the transition to professional life is clear. Mentees benefit from:

- Guidance for their first job
- Expanded perspectives through an interdisciplinary network
Mentors are experienced professionals from:
- Business
- Academia
- Public administration
- The non-profit sector
They share their professional and personal experience to support the mentees’ growth. The application deadline for the summer semester is July 30, 2025.
