A list of questions useful for defining goals, including using the SMART method.

  • What is your goal, in a nutshell?
  • Describe your goal in one sentence.
  • How can you make this goal clearer?
  • How will you know that you have achieved your goal?
  • How will you measure your success?
  • How can you make your goal really specific?
  • Is your goal measurable?
  • Is your goal achievable?
  • Is your goal realistic?
  • What is your deadline for achieving your goal?
  • What will achieving this goal give you?
  • Can you break down the goal into smaller sub-goals?
  • How can you ultimately evaluate your goal?
  • What milestones can you set to measure the goal along the way?
  • Is this goal controllable? Is it completely within your control?
  • What goal would be difficult to achieve? To make it even better?
  • Can you tell me your problem in one sentence?
