Creating Well-Being in mentoring
Well-being
Well-being is created through a conscious effort to maximize five factors that help a person feel fulfilled, in good spirits, and emotionally balanced.
These factors are:
- Positive emotions
- Effects
- Meaning
- Relationships
- Flow
This exercise can be used to:
- Determine a mentee's internal resources and support them in recognizing mastery in a particular field.
The materials:
- Paper
- Post-it notes
- Colored pens/markers
- Virtual board (such as Miro or Mural) for remote work
Instructions:
Step 1
Encourage the mentee to identify their professional or personal goal. Ask the mentee to write down their goal.
Step 2
Ask the mentee to identify factors related to their chosen goal in each of the five categories. Encourage the mentee to generate as many factors as they can think of.

Step 3
Encourage the mentee to reflect on the essential factors in each category. Mark each of these factors - the mentee can circle or highlight them in a different color if working on a virtual board.
Step 4
Ask the mentee to create a sentence based on the chosen factors from step 3. Make sure the sentence is:
- Formulated positively (without negation!)
- Clear
- Understandable Ask the mentee to write down this sentence. Encourage the mentee to reflect on the sentence using the following questions:
- Does this sentence have a positive connotation for you?
- What message does this sentence convey?
- Do you feel that this sentence meets all the criteria for well-being?
- Does this sentence serve you?
- How does it serve you?
Step 5
Encourage and support the mentee in practically identifying how they will implement the listed factors in each area. Ask the mentee to write down the material and intangible resources that will assist in achieving their goal.

Step 6
Encourage the mentee to reflect using the following questions: How will you know that you have succeeded? What will change for you? What will change for others? What will be created? How will you feel? What will you gain? What benefits do you want to have? What will you experience?
Step 7
Based on the answers, create a new sentence with the mentee or reformulate the existing one, as you did in step 4.
Step 8
Summarize the exercise. You can use the following questions: What have you learned about yourself? What have you discovered? What do you plan to do with it? What specific actions will you take? When?
