SSC Model in mentoring
Feedback Techniques - part 1
The SSC Model
When to use:
- The SSC model is useful when giving feedback during summaries.
Materials needed:
- Paper
- Post-it notes
- Colored pens/markers
- Virtual board (such as Miro or Mural) for remote work
Instructions:
The SSC model can also be used in a conversation without using materials.
- S: Start
Begin doing everything that is missing that can be added or changed, practices that are worth implementing, things that you want to try, and ideas for development.
- S: Stop
Stop doing everything that hinders your development, bad habits, ideas that are not worth repeating, and factors that distract you.
- C: Continue
Continue all positive habits, good practices, talents, and things that make you great at what you do.
The SBI Model
When to use:
- The SBI model helps give quick and concise feedback after something has been done, especially if you witnessed it.
Materials needed:
- None are required.
Instructions:
- S: Situation
Describe the situation in which the observed behavior took place.
- B: Behaviour
Explain and help the mentee understand the behavior you are referring to.
- I: Impact
Explain the impact that the behavior had on you, other employees, and the organization.
